(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Basketball Super League has named Latin Davis of the Windsor Express as the First Star, Charlie Marquardt of the Sudbury Five as the Second Star, and Jeremy Hayes of the Montreal Toundra as the Third Star for the month of January.
Latin Davis
Following up an MVP season is rarely easy, but Latin Davis has shown absolutely no trouble with that burden. Being named the first star of the month, an acknowledgement to an outstanding month where he was a pivotal point in Windsor’s offence through elite level scoring, shooting at an efficient rate and exceptional playmaking. Through nine games in January, Davis averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists per game. He achieved this all while maintaining an incredibly efficient 50% from the field and an 47% from three point range. Davis delivered multiple outstanding performances throughout the month none better than his impressive game on January 7th against the Lake Erie Jackals. He dropped a huge 44 points, shooting 70% from the floor and 75% from deep. To complement this offensive explosion, he also recorded six assists and three rebounds to complete the dominant game. The reigning MVP helped guide his team to a .500 record going 4-4 in the month of January. Davis’ exceptional month and dominant performances helped him solidify him as the BSL’s First Star of the Month of January.
Charlie Marquardt
In a month that saw the Sudbury Five dominate their competition, winning six of seven match-ups, there was no piece more integral to the team’s success than Charlie Marquardt. Through six appearances in January, Marquardt was an offensive force, averaging 22.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting an impressive 45.4% from beyond the arc. His strongest performance of the month came on January 16th against the Windsor Express, where he recorded 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds while shooting 45.5% from the field and from three in a hard-fought 97-91 victory. Marquardt’s elite shooting performances and his consistent play have earned him the selection of BSL’s Second Star of the Month for January.
Jeremy Hayes
Despite a volatile month for the Montreal Toundra, Jeremy Hayes served as a reliable and impactful player throughout January. In seven games, Hayes led the charge offensively, posting averages of 20.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 48.0% from the field. Throughout the month, Hayes delivered several strong performances, highlighted by his January 18th performance against Windsor, where he racked up 27 points and five rebounds with remarkable efficiency, shooting 81.8% from the field and 75.0% from three-point range to help secure a 126-121 win. His strong all-around play and offensive consistency have earned him recognition as the Basketball Super League’s Third Star of the Month for January.
